The SXP2 equatorial mount, the highest model in the SX series, has been renewed with the Wireless Unit that can control wirelessly the mount via smartphone app. It inherits high performance such as high reliability by rigidity, belt-drive system for minimum backlash and high response, and precision tracking by micro-step drive. Enjoy comfortable astronomical observation with this flagship model with improved operability.
The SXP2 equatorial mount WL is equipped with the Wireless Unit that allows your smartphone or tablet device to act as a controller, enabling you to use celestial navigation functions such as high-precision automatic celestial tracking. The free smartphone app "STAR BOOK Wireless" allows you to control the equatorial mount and enjoy celestial navigation and other functions comfortably without cables.
If you tap the celestial object you want to see on the star chart, it will be automatically slew into the field of view and tracking will start.Following the display of the STAR BOOK TEN controller which has been highly evaluated for its comfortable operability, even existing STAR BOOK TEN users can use it without any discomfort.
The pair of ball bearings used in the right ascension of the first generation SXP equatorial mount has been replaced with a stronger large tapered roller bearing, and the space between bearings is designed wider than that of the SXP equatorial mount to improve the loading capacity. In addition, the wall thickness of the polar axis housing has been increased, and the mount head employed the fork-structure same as the higher-end AXJ model using the same parts, improving stability and increasing the significantly overall rigidity of the equatorial mount.
In the conventional motor drive system of equatorial mounts, motion power of the motor was conveyed to the worm gears to rotate. The gear trains require a minimum amount of play to move the gears and the amount of play increases as the number of gears increases. To avoid this, transmission of the motion power has been changed from the gears to a belt drive system. As a result, both backlash from the gear trains and gear noise have been reduced dramatically. In addition, quick response has been achieved.
The weightless structure cultivated in the SX series was inherited. By concentrating the main weight-bearing parts such as the motor, worm shaft, and worm wheel on the weight side, and shortening the distance from the fixed point to the mounting block (the place where the equipment is mounted), advantageous structure in terms of dynamics is adopted. You can balance the weight with the loading equipment with less counterweight. Depending on the weight of the loading equipment, counterweightless is also possible.
Total 16 bearings are effectively used in the major sections such as right ascension and declination axes and worm bearings, achieving very smooth and stress-free movement.
The mount head features 35mm in diameter and eight threaded holes for M8 screws that are arranged at an intervals of 45 degrees. It can be attached an optional accessory plate directly or in combination with an optional dovetail-plate mounting block. The threaded holes on the mount head can accept other manufacturer's tube plates also. *For installing equipment made by other manufacturers, please make sure dimensions and refer to the manual of the installing equipment.
Stainless steel of excellent corrosion resistance is used for the counterweight bar. Retractable design storable in the equatorial mount body allows speedy setup. You can use the counterweight common to the SX series of 20 mm in diameter. If the loading equipment is light, it can also work itself as a simple counterweight.
An accessory shoe is equipped on the R.A. body. If you use an optional Polar Meter which comprises of the compass with bubble level and altitude scale used for locating Polaris easily, you can easily set up the polar axis even during daytime or in an environment where the Polaris is unvisible (simple setup).
It is a device that allows high-precision installation of
equatorial mount with easy operation (for the northern and
southern hemispheres). Built-in scale that shows the starry sky
near the north celestial pole (south celestial pole).
By introducing the polaris and two nearby stars (three in total)
into the designated positions on the scale, you can easily measure
the polar axis with an accuracy of within 3 arc minutes. (for the
northern hemisphere). Built-in dark field illumination (red LED)
that turns on with a single button.
The scale itself glows red, so dark stars don't get lost in the
background. All adjustments can be made while looking through the
Polar Alignment Scope PFL-II, making it very convenient in dark
places. The brightness of the scale is adjustable in 8 steps, so
you can use it at your preferred brightness. In addition, it will
automatically turn off in 1 to 2 minutes (gradual dimming), and
you can prevent forgetting to turn it off after use.
