The PORTA II alt-azimuth mount, paired with the AE81M telescope, is a long-standing favorite thanks to its excellent operability and stability. The mount features a friction-stop control mechanism, allowing the telescope tube to move smoothly by hand and stop when released. With no complicated operations required, even beginners can use it intuitively. The telescope can be set up quickly and is easy to start observing right away. It is highly recommended not only for beginners but also for experienced observers.
The AE81M optical tube is designed to deliver solid basic performance while keeping costs down, allowing beginners to enjoy serious astronomical observation with ease.
At the heart of its performance is an 81mm achromatic objective lens, which minimizes chromatic aberration. The lens surfaces are treated with multi-coatings to reduce light reflection, minimizing light loss and producing sharp, clear images.
The PORTA II altazimuth mount has long been a best-selling model, highly acclaimed for its outstanding operability and stability.
The optical tube can be freely moved by hand in any direction, and it remains securely in place when released, thanks to its friction-based mechanism. This allows you to easily aim the telescope at celestial objects, providing a smooth and comfortable operating experience.
After positioning the telescope optical tube in the desired direction using the friction-stop control, fine adjustments can be made with the two slow-motion control handles. Since the mount employs full-circle slow-motion gears, the optical tube can be moved with exceptional smoothness and precision. The handles can be repositioned in 45-degree increments, allowing you to adjust them to a comfortable position according to the type and size of the optical tube assembly.
The telescope tube attachment features a standard dovetail plate mounting block, allowing quick, easy one-touch attachment and removal of an optical tube.
It is compatible not only with the standard AE81M optical tube but also with Vixen optical tubes* used on the SX series mounts.
*Compatible with optical tubes weighing approximately 5 kg or less and with an outer diameter of 160 mm or less.
Tools for adjusting the stiffness of the friction-stop control mechanism and for repositioning the slow-motion control handles are stored in the compartment beneath the black rubber cover on the mount head. So, your tools are always within reach.
A round accessory tray us provided for small items such as eyepieces or cameras. It is useful during nighttime astronomical observations, when small parts are easily misplaced or lost.
The PORTA II mount head can be detached from the tripod by loosening the fixing bolt underneath the tripod head, making it convenient for transport and storage. It can also be mounted on other Vixen tripods, such as the APP-TL130.
The PORTA II mount head is compatible with the APP-TL130, ASC-CB90, and SXG-HAL130 tripods.
