※To register comets, use the downloaded text file. ※In this registration, the orbital elements of comets are stored from the top (line number 1) of the data tracks in order. If the track of the line number 1 is already occupied with the previous data of the orbital elements, it will be overwritten with fresh one. If this is the case, transfer the previous data to any vacant track after the line number 1. ※The data of orbital elements of comets released to the public are renewed constantly. You can confirm the latest information on the data of the comets via Internet.

Preparation for Entering Orbital Elements of Comets

Update your STAR BOOK-S to the latest program version.

Comet text file

Directly connect the STAR BOOK-S to the PC with a LAN crossover cable.
※Do not power on the STAR BOOK-S and PC at this early stage.
※Regarding the connection of the LAN crossover cable to the PC, refer to the instructions pro vided with your PC.

Power on the STAR BOOK-S. Connecting the power supply cord will start up the STAR BOOK-S. Turn on the PC.
Wait for a period of one minute as the STAR BOOK-S and PC will automatically acquire information on networking.
Advance the dialogs on screen of the STAR BOOK-S until the star chart appears in Chart Mode or Scope Mode.
In the System Menu of the STAR BOOK-S, scroll down the cursor to select “About STAR BOOK-S” and press Select key to enter.

Directly connect the STAR BOOK TEN to the PC with a LAN crossover cable.

IP Address:169.254.a.b (a, b are arbitrary numbers)
Subnet Mask:255.255.0.0

Open Internet Explorer and enter the IP address you obtained in step 4 into the address bar to display the entry page.
Example: If the IP address is 192.168.0.189, put
http://192.168.0.189 on the address bar.
※Change the setting to have the address bar appear if it is hidden on your PC.
The entry page shown on the left appears. Click “Table of the registered comets” in the entry page.

The “Table of the registered comets” dialog box appears. Confirm that the orbital elements of the comets are registered in the data track in order starting from the number 1 on the table. The existing data are always overwritten by the new information. You need to transfer the existing data to an available track so it is not lost.
Click “Data File Transmission from the File” to access the entry dialog box.

The “Data File Transmission from the File” page appears. Click on the Browse… button to continue.

Designate the folder that contains a file (.txt) of the orbital elements of comets. Point to the file of the orbital elements of comets and click the Open button.

Click on the Submit Query button to send.

You will see the message below at the end of a successful transmission to your STAR BOOK-TypeS.

Display the table of the registered comets to confirm the new registration.

Clicking the number in the table will show you the orbital elements of a comet in details.
Be sure to reboot the STAR BOOK after you finish registering the orbital elements of comets.
