Delivering high rigidity and precision that nearly rivals our flagship AXD2 equatorial mount WL, the AXJ equatorial mount WL combines advanced performance with a lightweight body. It is compatible with the standard SXG-HAL130 tripod of the SX series and now offers even greater ease of use with a built-in Wireless Unit for cable-free operation. Bringing advanced astronomical observation within easy reach, it is designed to meet the demands of serious amateur astronomers.
V-PEC (Vixen - Permanent Periodic Error Correction) is a system in which the periodic error (PEC) is actually measured for each equatorial mount, and the calculated correction values are stored in the mount body.
At Vixen’s factory, each AXJWL mount is individually measured using a high-resolution Periodic Motion (PM) measuring instrument. The PM is recorded at 12 points, taken every 30 degrees of the worm wheel’s rotation. From this data, the most effective correction values are calculated and stored in the mount’s non-volatile memory.
With standard PEC, users must measure the PM themselves and record the correction data into the hand controller. In contrast, when the AXJWL is in operation, the V-PEC data pre-stored in the mount automatically activates. This enables users to achieve high-precision tracking within ±4.0 arcseconds, without user recording.
In conventional equatorial mounts, motor power has traditionally been transmitted through a series of gears to drive the worm shaft, a critical component for precise tracking. However, because gears inherently require a certain play, or "backlash," this tolerance accumulates at each stage of the gearing.
To overcome this limitation, we have adopted a timing belt transmission system in place of the conventional gear train. This design greatly reduces both the operational noise and backlash associated with gears, resulting in quieter, more stable operation with improved responsiveness.
This model features a Wireless Unit that transforms your smartphone or tablet into a controller for high-precision celestial tracking and celestial navigation.
With the free STAR BOOK Wireless app, you can browse a star chart and tap the object you wish to observe on the screen of your device. The telescope will automatically bring it into view and begin tracking. This lets you enjoy celestial navigation and other functions with ease—without the hassle of tangled cables. The app’s interface continues our highly acclaimed STAR BOOK TEN controller, renowned for its intuitive operation.

AXJWL equatorial mount features a total of 14 bearings in its critical components, including both the R.A. / Dec. shafts and the worm blocks, ensuring exceptionally smooth and effortless movement.
The Right Ascension axis blocks incorporate two pairs of bearings (four in total). By increasing the spacing between these bearings, the load capacity has been significantly enhanced, allowing the lightweight mount to support a generous payload of 22 kg.
The mount features a cradle of fork arms, with the polar axis body securely seated between two robust arms, providing a lightweight yet strong structure.
The mount head features a generous number of threaded holes, compatible not only with Vixen optical tubes and components but also with equipment from other manufacturers.
It can be converted into a dovetail mount head by adding a dovetail-plate mounting block (sold separately).
Threading: 8 × M8, 4 × 5/16-inch
Note: When attaching third-party equipment, please verify the dimensions and consult the equipment’s instruction manual.
Inheriting the innovative design of the SX series, the mount body itself functions as a partial counterweight. In this advantageous layout, key heavy components—such as the motor, the DEC worm shaft, and the Declination worm wheel—are concentrated in the lower portion of the declination body. Additionally, the distance from the intersection of the R.A. and DEC axes to the saddle plate (where the equipment is mounted) has been shortened to enhance this design.
As a result, the system can achieve balance with significantly less counterweight. Depending on the weight of the mounted equipment, such as a small telescope, it is even possible to balance the setup without any counterweight.
By attaching a Polar Meter (sold separately) to the standard accessory shoe on the mount body, you can roughly align the polar axis quickly, even during the daytime or in environments where Polaris is not visible.
The counterweight bar is made of highly corrosion-resistant stainless steel. It can be stored neatly within the mount body for quick and easy setup. With a diameter of 25 mm, it is compatible with the counterweights of the AXD series.
This device enables high-precision polar alignment of an equatorial mount by simple operation, and is usable in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
It incorporates a built-in reticle that shows the star patterns around the North and South Celestial Poles. In the Northern Hemisphere, accurate polar alignment within 3 arcminutes can be achieved by placing Polaris and two nearby stars in their designated positions on the scale.
A dark-field red LED illuminator is built into the polar axis unit and lit by a push button, allowing the reticle to be visible without obscuring faint background stars. All adjustments can be made while looking through the polar scope, offering excellent convenience during nighttime setup.
The reticle brightness can be adjusted in eight levels to suit your preference. It also features an automatic shutoff function that gradually dims the light after 1–2 minutes, preventing accidental battery drain if you forget to turn it off.
This mount can be attached directly to a standard SX series tripod, and to a standard AXD series tripod or pillar using the AXJ-TR Conversion Adapter Set (sold separately).*
